I wanted to be a physical education teacher since I was 10 years old. School didn’t come easy for me. I always felt most confident when I was physically active and I wanted to do what I loved.
Becoming a teacher seemed daunting, but my teachers and my family members encouraged me and I was determined. It was challenging in all the best ways. I found my passion and learned that not all obstacles are physical. It’s how we respond to what’s placed in our path that defines who we are. Strength is determined by your character — your ability to be resilient and persevere.
After college, I began teaching and found my professional home at Klem North Elementary School. I love my job and I am happy to be working in the same district that I attended. I also discovered a new passion at a local strength and conditioning gym. The program and people have profoundly impacted my thinking, my physicality, and my teaching. Training there gives me the opportunity to be a student again. Much of what I learn there I share with my students.
As teachers, it is our responsibility to motivate kids and encourage them to pursue their passion. I want my students to feel that we’re on this road together. No matter who you are or what you believe about yourself, there is strength within you. You don’t have to be anyone special or have anything to feel strong; be as you are and uncover the strength within.

I am so excited for the physical fitness future of our young people with Sarah as their guide! I was really happy when she decided to come on board because of her positive energy and her desire to tell her story in such a unique way. This was a great one for allowing me to continue to learn and stretch my creative muscles. A big thank you to Sarah and her terrific students for participating!!
